This painting was my final project at the Barcelona Academy of Art. My aim was to subvert the tradition of Venus portraits, depicting young naked women that reflected the beauty standards of their time, by replacing them with a woman with grey or white hair. The idea is to show a woman who is generally invisible in art, while highlighting her beauty and seductiveness. In ‘Amanda – Les Invisibles’, the model strikes the pose of Venus reclining on a bed, in a clearly erotic context. She gazes at the viewer/lover, embracing the seductive situation, and her smile emphasises both her complicity with her lover and the happiness that this relationship brings to her.
